Daily Devotional : Abundant life in Christ.‏

Daily Devotional

Good Morning church,

John 10:10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." ESV Jesus came to give life, the eternal abundant life that only He can give. Some have understood this passage to be speaking about having the abundance of material possessions while on this earth. That is not Jesus point at all, He is speaking about life in Him, and having eternal life. Some said that a mans life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. Amen church?

Daily Devotional : Are we drifting?

Daily Devotional

Good Morning Brethren,

"Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it." Hebrews 2:1. ESV The Hebrew writer says it so well to his generation and to us in the 21st century as well. Are we drifting away from what we were taught, the gospel of Christ? I was taught that when the church assembled I was to be there. L. C. Wallis, my father-in-law would say that if you love the Lord you are to love His church and want to be there. Drifting away is so easy to do and sometimes it is hard to notice that you are drifting until you find yourself away from the church, away from the Lord. And it's not always bad things that take us away, family, friends, work, hobbies, sports, and so on and so on. But the end result is the same, we are away from the church, the Lord's body. I just want to encourage each of you to look at yourself, are you drifting? Scripture has a way of causing you and me to examine ourselves before the Lord. Amen church?

Daily Devotional : This is that!

Good Morning Brethren,

Acts 2:16, "but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:" ASV God in His word always helps us to understand what is going on and what is being said in scripture. The apostle Peter uses this very idea when he begins to preach on Pentecost following the ascension of Jesus to His Father. God's word today remains the best commentary on the Bible. My task, your task, our task is to keep reading, keep studying and keep searching the scriptures and come to a fuller knowledge of the truth. Amen church?

Good Morning Brethren,

2 Timothy 3:16, "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work." ESV All of God's word is inspired by Him, it's all His breathed out word, both Old Testament and New Testament. This we at Portal Way agree on and we should and must in order to stand united upon His word. However there is also an exhortation to us concerning the rightly dividing His word. 2 Timothy 2:15, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."ESV Not only is it inspired by God, we are now given the charge to rightly handle His truth, rightly understand it and teach it. And this we must continue to do as the Lord's church in the midst of a lost and dying world. Amen church?

Daily Devotional : Love and honor.‏

Daily Devotional

Good Morning Brethren,

Romans 12:9, 'Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor." ESV Paul in his letter to the brethren at Rome exhorts them to love one another, honor one another, and all of this is to be genuine. The word for genuine used here by some versions is the word HUPOKRISIS and is translated dissimulation, meaning pretence. So our love is not be in pretence for one another in the Lord but true, genuine. So I am not to act like I love my brethren, but actually love them in Christ. In fact I am to show honor for my brethren in the Lord. This is truly a different way in dealing with people. Amen church? Let's all do so.
